On April 12, join the Discovery Series for a hike investigating signs of spring and amphibians. Pools of water from melting snow host all sorts of life at the Godwin Preserve.

Explore some of Godwin's vernal pools with an Up Yonda Farm naturalist to see what frogs and salamanders make these part of their life cycle. This hike is rated easy/moderate with several steeper sections.

This hike is a one-mile round trip. The trails will be muddy, so bring boots!

Registration is required at least 24 hours in advance.

About the Discovery Series.

The Discovery Series includes free themed hikes from February through October. These hikes are geared toward learners of all ages and vary in location and duration (between 1.5 and 2 hours). See the complete list of Discovery Series events.

The Godwin Preserve in Bolton Landing.

The Isabel La Roche Godwin Preserve is a stunning area of forests and vernal pools located in the uplands of Bolton Landing. The Lake George Land Conservancy purchased the property in June 2016 and opened its hiking trails to the public on July 26, 2016.

The preserve features a tributary of Indian Brook and a large vernal pool that serves as a breeding ground for amphibians. It is part of a large, unfragmented forest that borders the Pole Hill Pond Preserve.

Protecting this delicate property helps prevent excess nutrients and sediments from developing and flowing into Indian Brook and Northwest Bay.

The Lake George Land Conservancy has created two hiking trails for passive recreation, exploration, and education. These trails include a lookout area with views of Pole Hill and High Nopit. The preserve is named in honor of the seller's mother, who cherished the land and Lake George.
