The Hyde Collection is a marvelous gem in Glens Falls. Housed in the former home of Charlotte Pruyn Hyde and her husband, Louis Hyde, the museum treats visitors to a wonderful collection of artistic masterpieces.
Mrs. Hyde was the daughter of Samuel Pruyn, one of the founders of Finch, Pruyn & Co., the storied paper manufacturer based in Glens Falls.
Located on the south side of Warren Street In Glens Falls, the Hyde’s residence serves as one of the finest examples of early 20th-century estate design. Boston architect Henry Forbes Bigelow designed the Hyde’s home using Renaissance Revival characteristics. Mr. Bigelow also designed houses for Mrs. Hyde’s sisters, all of which are on the National Register of Historic Places.

ANYWAY...over their lifetimes, the Hydes assembled a remarkable collection of European and American art worthy of comparison to any major metropolitan museum. This should give you a clue that maybe you should check out the Hyde Collection.
The Hydes gifted their home and art collection "to maintain a Museum for the exhibition of the permanent collection and to promote and cultivate the improvement of the fine arts, for the education and benefit of the residents of Glens Falls and vicinity and the general public."
Visit The Hyde to see works by artists like El Greco, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Rubens, Degas, Seurat, Picasso, Renoir, Childe Hassam, Winslow Homer, and Whistler. Yup, we’re name-dropping.
Recently, the museum added a gallery to house the Feibes and Schmitt collection, a gift of Werner Feibes and his husband, the late James Schmitt, renowned Schenectady, N.Y. architects.
Feibes and Schmitt amassed a world-class modern art collection aligned with their tastes and interests in non-objective art, Pop art, abstract art, and Minimalism.
As a result, The Hyde’s modern and contemporary art collection now features beautiful works by Josef Albers, Dorothy Dehner, Adolph Gottlieb, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Robert Motherwell, and Robert Rauschenberg and Bridget Riley, among others.
