Nettle Meadow Farm at the Hitching Post
Cheese? Yes, please! We're big fans of Nettle Meadow's goat, sheep and cow milk cheeses.
Nettle Meadow’s commitment to natural ingredients and happy and healthy animals makes for swoon-worthy cheeses. That’s probably why they’ve won a goat-load of awards and accolades for their products. And you can find their cheeses in stores and restaurants all over the ADK.
Nettle Meadow’s farm and animal sanctuary has long been a wonderful place to visit the critters that provide us with these luscious cheeses.
Now there is a retail location, tasting room, and tavern conveniently located at the former home of the historic Olde Hitching Post roadhouse. Just 5 miles west of Exit 21 of I87, visitors can find a complete selection of Nettle Meadow’s famous cheeses along with pottery, local food products, charcuterie, and artisan chocolates. They recently opened a tasting room that pairs the cheeses with wines and local beers and also offers brunch on weekends.
We highly recommend the Kunik, their flagship Fromage. According to Nettle Meadow’s website, Kunik’s a unique and voluptuous cheese only made by them. It is a white mold-ripened wheel made from goat’s milk and Jersey cow cream. The blend makes Kunik far richer and more flavorful than a brie-type cheese yet more subtle and sumptuous than similarly ripened goat cheeses. Kunik is a registered trademark of Nettle Meadow Farm.
Nettle Meadow also produces a line of spreadable Chevres, some with herbs, horseradish, garlic and olive oil, even pumpkin.
Visit Nettle Meadow’s website for more information about the Farm & Sanctuary as well as the Tasting Room, including current hours. You will also find an extensive list of the places you can find Nettle Meadow’s award-winning cheeses across the US.
