A single Facebook post brought national attention to a small mountain in upstate New York, winning the hearts of the entire ski industry. Hickory Hill has faced challenges due to climate change and financial pressures, issues that are unfortunately common for small ski areas.

After announcing the inability to afford their insurance for the 2023/24 season, skiers, both local and scattered throughout the country, responded in droves, allowing the mountain to open for the first time in 10 years.

“Reviving the Legend” emphasizes what makes Hickory unique and why it is worth preserving. It also examines the potential impact of Hickory’s continued operation on the local community and what it may signify for the ski industry overall.

Filmmaker Ian McGraw helmed “Reviving the Legend.” With 20 years of experience as a Director of Photography, Ian has a passion for telling unique and extraordinary stories from around the world through sports documentary and national commercial projects.

He has worked with high-profile brands such as ESPN, Ford, PGA Tour, Land Rover, WWE, Outside TV along with various other brands has received 5 Sports Emmy Awards and 13 nominations for various projects.

“VARIABLE”: Two brothers’ 10-year journey ski the ADK 46ers backcountry.

In March 2024, Jamie Kennard and his brother, Doug, completed their ambitious quest of skiing all 46 Adirondack High Peaks. This ski mountaineering adventure took them a decade to finish. The last time anyone had skied all of the Adirondack mountains was in 1996, which was 28 years prior to their achievement.

“VARIABLE” chronicles the brothers' ten-year journey to ski the Adirondack 46ers (mountains rising to 4,000 feet and higher), along with the classic high peaks of the Catskills, totaling 81 mountains.

The duo faced numerous challenges as they skied to the summits, navigating complex terrain filled with ice, rock, and dense forests while contending with unpredictable and harsh winter conditions. They encountered physical injuries, a midnight rescue on thin lake ice, and the tragic loss of a spouse, all of which tested their commitment to the journey.

The International Skiing History Association selected “Variable” as a 2025 Film Award winner.

In a landscape increasingly impacted by climate change, they raced against time and a dwindling snowpack to complete their goal before the winter conditions deteriorated. Mountain Gazette described their accomplishment as “a New York skiing achievement like no other.”
