Celebrate Black History Month in the Adirondacks with a performance highlighting the history and music of the 1920s and 1930s.

Join in a celebration of Black History Month and the centennial of the Harlem Renaissance at a performance highlighting the history and music of the 1920s and 1930s. American Music historian Michael Lasser will weave a story of fascinating details intertwined with vocals by Connie Fredericks-Malone and Reuben Tapp, accompanied by music director Alan Jones.

The Harlem Renaissance began as a literary movement with the emergence of such writers as Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes, but it soon spread to include modern dance, classical music, and art and sculpture. But then, a new, more raffish strain emerged through popular music. It drew racially diverse crowds to Harlem every night to hear such performers as Ethel Waters and Louis Armstrong at the Cotton Club and Connie’s Inn, and it helped to change America.
