Where in the ADK? Butterfly House
Paul Smith’s Visitor Center’s Butterfly House celebrates a different type of Adirondack wildlife.
This week’s “Where in the ADK?” comes from Paul Smith’s in the Adirondack Tri-Lakes and High Peaks region. It’s the Breck Chapin Memorial Native Species Butterfly House at Paul Smith’s Visitor Interpretive Center.
Explore the world of native butterflies, get up close to these colorful insects and learn about their life stages and migratory patterns. Paul Smith’s friendly Butterfly House volunteers are available to help visitors identify the different species of butterflies in the house, provide information about their life cycle, and even share tips on which plants are favored by each species.
Inside the Butterfly House, learn about nectar plants for food and host plants for egg-laying and caterpillar feeding. They also have touch boxes and information handouts on butterflies and moths.
Be sure to check out the Frank Hutchins Butterfly Garden outside the Butterfly House. This garden is designed to attract butterflies and is named after the late Frank Hutchins, a dedicated supporter of Paul Smith’s VIC.
