This week’s “Where in the ADK?” comes from Tupper Lake. It’s the Beth Joseph synagogue.

Beth Joseph is the oldest standing building in Tupper Lake and the oldest synagogue in the Adirondacks.

The building has an intriguing history, and it’s the only synagogue north of Manhattan on the National Register of Historic Places, thanks to its beautiful wood-paneled interior and stained-glass windows.

As of this writing, services are held only in July and August. No matter what your faith is, it’s worth stopping by to appreciate the magnificence of the structure’s craftsmanship.
