The Howl Story Slam Comes to Tupper Lake
Adirondack storytellers converge on Raquette River Brewing to tell their favorite tales and amazing anecdotes on November 7.
Get ready for an unforgettable evening at The Howl Story Slam in Tupper Lake at Raquette River Brewing on November 7, 2023. Join this live storytelling competition where anyone with a story to tell can take the stage. Bring your true stories, creativity, and enthusiasm for an engaging night of narratives.
What is a story slam?
Story Slams have become popular events to draw communities of people together. They are lively and spirited storytelling competitions where anyone can sign up to take the stage and tell a true story in under 5 minutes.
The stories are scored by judges, who are typically 2-3 audience members, and at the end of the competition, a winner is announced.
All winners are invited to attend an annual Grand Slam event.
This slam’s theme: “Falling For It.”
The theme for the evening is "Falling For It," which offers a rich vein to mine. Whether you've fallen in love, fallen hook-line-and-sinker, fallen down a rabbit hole, or fallen like Dick Van Dyke tripping over the ottoman in his New Rochelle living room, there's a story waiting to be told.
The event takes place November 7, starting at 7 pm at Raquette River Brewing in Tupper Lake. Anyone can participate, and the guidelines are simple:
Share true stories.
Challenge yourself to speak authentically — no notes allowed — so practice, practice, practice.
Brevity is a great charm of eloquence — keep it under 5 minutes.
Leave the rants and stand-up routines at home. Bits and pieces of each are welcome but use humor and rants sparingly.
Storytellers will be judged on their story’s relevance to the night’s theme, a story with a conflict and resolution, and staying within the time limit.
No tickets are required. The organizers kindly suggest a $10 donation at the door. Your donation goes a long way in supporting two nonprofit organizations committed to the belief that everyone's story is worth sharing: the Adirondack Center for Writing and North Country Public Radio.
