Saranac Lake 3P: Pole-Pedal-Paddle March 1, 2025

The Saranac Lake 3P will take place on March 1, 2025. It is a multi-leg race in which contestants compete individually or in teams and consists of an alpine ski/snowboard leg, a town tour bike leg, a cross-country ski leg, another quick bicycle leg, a boating leg, and a running segment that will bring participants back to the start/finish line at Mt. Pisgah outside Saranac Lake.
According to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, 3P races are more common on the West Coast. The Saranac Lake event is the only official one east of the Rockies that local organizers know of that’s currently active.
Racecourse details.
The race starts at 9 am. Participants will skin up (ski uphill with climbing skins attached to the underside of their skis) or snowshoe up the slope of the 274-foot Mt. Pisgah ski area, alpine ski or snowboard down Mt. Pisgah.
From there, they will bike to Dewey Mountain, where they will cross-country ski two loops on a set course on the groomed trails.
Participants will mount their bikes again and ride to Beaver Park and the Saranac River. They will then paddle down to the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club before finally running back up to the start/finish line at Mt. Pisgah.
A community event.
At each venue along the Saranac Lake 3P race course, spectators gather, standing on sidewalks, streets, and bridges over the river. They enthusiastically shake cowbells, blow horns, and cheer for the racers—or heckle their friends and teammates.

At noon, a Kids 3P event will occur at Mount Pisgah. Lil’ ADKers ages 5 to 15 will ski (downhill and cross-country), bike, tube, run, and push kicksleds to the finish line.
An awards ceremony will follow the kids’ race, accompanied by a community celebration of Saranac Lake’s outdoor venues, sponsored by RiverTrail Beerworks.
As Saranac Lake 3P co-organizer Joe Williams told The Adirondack Daily Enterprise, "The idea is we’re trying to celebrate Saranac Lake here. You don’t need to be a racer to do that.”
A party will be hosted at the Mt. Pisgah Lodge, adjacent to the start/finish line, from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. Throughout the day, there will be food, beverages, and vendors set up slopeside.
