Wilmington Notch Campground Near Whiteface Mountain.
Camp near Whiteface, the Ausable River and Lake Placid.
First opened in 1926, Wilmington Notch Campground is located in picturesque birch and pine grove formed by glacial forces at the base of legendary Whiteface Mountain, home of two winter Olympics. It contains 54 campsites and offers hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, a recycling center, and a picnic area.
We love that it allows campers to immerse themselves in nature, but is also close to many of the Adirondacks’ manmade highlights.
The campground is adjacent to the Ausable River, a great spot for fisherpeople looking to challenge the rapids in search of a great catch. Campers are within hiking distance of the grand 40-foot-high Wilmington Notch Falls.
For both experienced and novice hikers, Wilmington Notch offers easy access to many Adirondack High Peak Wilderness trails. The Sentinel Range Wilderness Area is to the south of the campground and the Wilmington Wild Forest to the north features many maintained mountain bike trails in addition to hiking.
Looking for some man-made attractions? Campers are close to the Lake Placid Olympic Village offering unlimited diversions. The village of Lake Placid provides a plethora of excellent dining and retail establishments.
Be sure to check out the campground’s website for current availability and to reserve your spot.
