Fourth of July weekend is an excellent time to visit Lake George’s Battlefield Park. American history on the shores of Lake George. This 35-acre park maintains important open space at the southern end of Lake George and preserves major French & Indian War and Revolutionary War battle sites.

Every Saturday from May through October, the Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance conducts guided tours of the Park’s unique history as a key site in the French & Indian War and the American Revolution.

Visitors can observe statues of historical figures such as Father Isaac Jogues (honored as one of the first white European men to see Lake George), and the remains of the Old Fort George.

The Park is also a favorite spot for picnics. There is a picnic pavilion with tables and water, and restrooms are nearby. The park is a Path Through History attraction. It is operated and maintained by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance: Preserving Vital American History in the Adirondacks.

The Alliance, formed in 2001 to help preserve the site and educate the public on its importance to American history, provides trained tour guides who point out the ruins of Fort George (constructed in 1759), the burial place of four unknown soldiers who were killed in the Battle of Lake George (1755), the Park’s historic statues and what they commemorate, and the remnants of hospitals and kilns that served soldiers during the two 18th century conflicts, among other noteworthy areas within the Battlefield Park.
