Indian Lake Theater will host the multi-Oscar-nominated blockbuster film “Wicked” from February 20 through Sunday, February 23. This includes a special movie party on Friday, February 21, with a cash bar, trivia competition and costume contest.
A “Wicked” good story.
“Wicked” is the untold story of the Witches of Oz. It stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway's The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her unusual green skin who has yet to discover her true power.
For her performance, Erivo has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Ervivo stars alongside Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande, who portrays Glinda—a young woman characterized by privilege and ambition, still on a journey to discover her true self.
Grande is nominated for an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in “Wicked.”

The film is an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Wicked," which initially featured Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristen Chenoweth as Glinda.
The two women meet as students at Shiz University in the enchanting Land of Oz and develop an unlikely yet profound friendship.
However, after encountering the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a turning point, leading their lives down very different paths.
Glinda's unwavering desire for popularity draws her toward power. Elphaba's commitment to staying true to herself and those she cares about results in unexpected and shocking consequences for her future.
Their extraordinary adventures in Oz ultimately lead them to fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Powerhouse performances earn critical praise.
We saw Wicked over the holidays and were utterly blown away by Cynthia Ervivo and Ariana Grande’s performances. The quality of the movie’s production is equally mesmerizing. And it’s earned an Oscar nomination for “Best Picture.”
To be candid, we’re not “musical show people.” However, we urge anyone to see this film for its outstanding musical performances and incredible production value.
But don’t take just our word for it. Reporting for ABC News, Peter Travers called it one of the best movies of the year and remarked, “How do I love the film of the hit stage musical? Let me count the ways, starting with the way Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande set the screen ablaze as frenemy witches and sets, costumes and songs to die for. Seeing this joyous eruption once is not enough.”

Writing for the Wall Street Journal, Kyle Smith commented, "‘Wicked’ is the most entertaining film of the year and the most dazzling live-action Hollywood musical since ‘Chicago.’ To put it in the kind of lingo used in Oz, I pronuncify it magnifical.”
