In the middle of the town of Schroon Lake is the storefront for Pine Cone Mercantile, a delightful store featuring unique home decor items. Next door, though, is North Woods Bread Co., a small but mighty shop that deserves its own identity and listing.
Depending on the day, visitors may find an assortment of pastries, cookies, loaves of bread, and rolls. So you will want to get there early to stock up.
On a recent visit on a quiet Sunday, we snagged the last loaf of their delicious multigrain bread, half a dozen cookies, and a few breakfast treats. They did not disappoint.
But they don’t stop with just baked goods. They offer a wide variety of foodstuffs from local producers. Despite the shop’s compact size, they were well-stocked with locally produced cheeses, sausages, meats, and other delights. So, the name is slightly misleading, given their array of provisions.
