“Mufasa: The Lion King at Indian Lake Theater

Lost and alone, orphaned cub Mufasa meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destinies.
The Lion King
“Mufasa: The Lion King” features photorealistic animation and functions as both a prequel and sequel to the 2019 remake of the original 1994 animated film.
The creators of the film use Rafiki to recount the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa contributing their classic humor.
The story is presented through flashbacks and introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub who is lost and alone until he encounters a compassionate lion named Taka, who is the heir to a royal bloodline.
This chance meeting sets off an expansive journey for a remarkable group of misfits as they search for their destinies. Their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a dangerous and threatening foe.
Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and John Kani reprise their roles from the remake. The new cast members include Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, and Blue Ivy Carter, who makes her feature film debut.
Praise for “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
Writing for The Times (UK), film critic Kevin Maher noted, “Disney has gone back to the drawing board with this dazzling animated musical, a film that matches photorealistic spectacle with hummable earworms and, mostly, a genuinely mythic sense of story.”
Richard Roeper in The Chicago Tribune said, “The voice work from the outstanding cast is rich and warm and vibrant, and while the songs from the great Lin-Manuel Miranda (with Lebo M. making valuable contributions) might not make for a generational catalog, they’re still infectious and clever.“
“Mufasa: The Lion King” plays March 13 to March 16. Showtimes are 7 pm Thursday through Saturday, and 2 pm on Sunday.
