The Adirondack Hotel sits in a particularly scenic position on the shores of Long Lake in the Central Adirondacks. It has a great ADK story, beautiful design and architectural details, and it’s also an excellent location for a delicious meal. Guests have two dining options:
The Victorian Rooms – experience the charms of an authentic turn-off-the-century dining establishment. The menu features carefully prepared dinner entrees accompanied by a lovely wine list. The dining room's ambiance, with its tin ceiling, fireplace and Victorian furnishings, further enhances the dining experience.
Lake Street Café – enjoy the laid-back vibes of the Adirondack Hotel’s authentic taproom with commanding views of Long Lake. After partaking in Long Lake’s Winter Carnival festivities, we enjoyed a terrific late lunch. We highly recommend the Garlic Fries and were knocked out by the Everything Bagel Pizza. The tasty local brews on tap didn’t hurt, either.
A brief history of the Adirondack Hotel.
While at the Adirondack Hotel, it’s impossible to escape its history: The original hotel, Kellog’s Lake House, was built in 1850. It burned to the ground in 1898.

The Adirondack Hotel in the early 20th Century.
According to the Adirondack Hotel’s website, the owner at the time, John Anderson, rebuilt the hotel in 1899. And then, in 1914, added a four-story expansion, including a formal dining room and eight more guest rooms. Sadly, though, by the end of the 1980s, the hotel fell into disrepair and disuse.
All was not lost; In 1990, Carol Young, the current owner, purchased the property even though it was in poor condition after being closed for two years. Her vision was to renovate the building and bring back the comfortable hospitality of the pats.
For the next 27 years, Carol worked tirelessly to achieve her dream. She has added her touches and renovations to this Historical building, including renovating all 20 guest rooms and 19 bathrooms.
The Adirondack Hotel boasts a unique blend of rustic Adirondack and Victorian design that reflects an equally impressive history. The gift shop alone is worth a visit. They’ve just got great stuff, so don’t miss it when you stop by the ADK Hotel.
One additional piece of trivia, allegedly, John Wayne and Mick Jagger slept at the Adirondack Hotel (not together, obviously).
