An Adirondack Full Moon Event: Snowshoe Hike at Paul Smith’s

Visit Paul Smith’s VIC to experience a full moon snowshoe hike in the Adirondack Park.

Enjoy the magic of being outside at night on moonlit trails in winter at Paul Smith’s Visitor Interpetive Center. Snowshoes are required, so please bring your own or call ahead if you need to rent a pair for this nighttime event.

The hike will be led by naturalist Milt Adams, who will take participants for a walk in the woods to explore winter tracks, listen for owls, and learn about some of the adaptations animals and plants must make to survive an Adirondack winter.

After the walk, warm up inside Paul Smith’s VIC with a cup of hot cocoa. Visit Paul Smith’s VIC website to purchase tickets and get more information.

February's full moon is commonly known as the "Snow Moon," per the Farmer” Almanac. This year, February’s full moon is a "Micromoon." This means the full moon is at its farthest point from Earth, also known as "apogee" in astronomical terms. Specifically, February’s micro full moon is about 252,225 miles from Earth.
