Indian Lake’s 2023 Snocade Winter Fest Starts February 18

A week’s worth of good times and outdoor fun.

Winter festival season continues with Indian Lake’s annual Snocade week-long celebration of winter in the Adirondacks. Every day from Saturday, February 18, to its Grand Finale Day on Saturday, February 25, Snocade offers participants a wide variety of activities to enjoy.

Saturday, February 18

7 am to 10 am Breakfast at Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department – A choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, home fries, coffee, and juice.

10 am to 11 am Ice Lantern Workshop – The Library will demonstrate how to create beautiful lanterns from water, snow, and ice. Participants will be able to show off their creations at the annual “Light Up the Library” party on Wednesday, February 22, at 6 pm.

10 am to 2:30 pm Friends of the Indian Lake Library Book & Bake Sale – Located at the Indian Lake Town Hall, 117 Pelon Rd

Monday, February 20

10 am Cold Water Rescue Demonstration -- Water Department on Chain Lake Rd. ILVFD and NYS DEC will demonstrate how to rescue a person or animal from cold water (Weather permitting)

Tuesday, February 21

8 am to 4 pm Free NYS Snowmobile Safety Course taught by state-certified instructors from the Hamilton County Sherriff Department, Byron Park, 117 Pelon Rd. Pre-registration is required, and class size may be limited.

10:30 am to 11:30 am Craft & Story Hour at the Indian Lake Library. After a live reading of "A Lot of Otters," Lil’ ADKers can make an excellent otter craft to take home. This program is for families with toddlers through elementary ages. Older and younger siblings are welcome to attend too.

2 pm to 4 pm Upcycled Glass Vessel Lantern Workshop – Using upcycled and new glass jars and bottles, participants will create frost-textured lanterns illuminated with either fairy lights or tea candles. Rustic trimmings will be provided to put an Adirondack finishing touch to each creation. This program is for adults and teens. Registration is required. Wednesday, February 22

11 am Guided Snowshoe Hike -- Snowshoe experience exploring the two new hike/bike trails at the Ski Hut. Trail One connects the Ski Hut/Hill and meanders through the woods ending at Crow Hill Road. Trail two begins at the Ski Hut/Hill, crosses three ski hills, and climbs to the top of the ski hill, offering views of the High Peaks.

2 pm to 4 pm Spa Day at the Library – Learn to create three simple and all-natural spa treatment essentials: beeswax lip balm, fizzing bath bombs, and invigorating body scrub. The Indian Lake Library will provide all the supplies. Participants will create a great sample of pampering products to soothe winter-weary skin. This program is for adults and teens. 6 pm to 7 pm 4th Annual "Light up the Library" Party – Join the Friends of the Indian Lake Library for a family-friendly celebration of wonderful winter in Indian Lake! Outside there will be s’mores to roast and cider to enjoy while admiring the beautiful ice lanterns created by community members. (Learn how to make ice lanterns Saturday, Feb. 18, 10-11). Attendees can vote for the lanterns they like best. Inside, enjoy storytelling, songs, activities for Lil’ ADKers, a scavenger hunt, and take and make craft kits. Thursday, February 23

10:30 am to 11:30 am Craft & Story Hour at the Indian Lake Library – Lil’ ADKers can listen to the Story of "The Snow Globe Family" and learn to make a snow globe ornament to take home. 10:30 am to 11:15 am Super Fun Story Time at the Indian Lake Library In honor of Snocade, the Library’s regularly scheduled baby and toddler story time’s theme is "Fun in the Snow" with a big snowy sensory bin full of arctic animals, a snow person puppet station, and an indoor snowball toss to work on motor skills.
