Weekend Round-Up, April 28, 2023

We love our winter activities and cozy nights by the fireside, but once mud season starts in the ADK, we can’t wait for warm weather on the lake, lazy afternoons on the screened-in porch and exhilarating highs on the trails.

Luckily, we are finding plenty of things to remind us that spring is here and summer is not far behind. From loon-spottings to our favorite ice cream stands opening to green shoots and blooms popping up all over, signs encourage us to believe that sunny and warm days will be here soon.

On Saturday, April 29, Caril Heilman II will teach a day-long class at the Adirondack Folk School designed to help anyone take great pictures. The session will be informative and interactive, with about half the time in the classroom and the rest out in the world, putting into practice all students learned. Check it out.

The circus is coming to town in Lake Placid. Don’t get left outside of the tent.

Hang on to your toque, Cirque Alfonse, the madcap circus from Quebec will be in Lake Placid on April 29. You don’t want to miss their potent mix of circus antics, lively music and song, dance and theater performed as only a Québecian family circus act can do.

Performing for just one night at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Cirque Alfonse brings their production of “Animal” to the ADK. In ANIMAL, a gentleman farmer surrounds himself with familiar but crazy creatures: the hens have teeth, the ducks are very naughty, and the cows are getting restless. Alfonse wildly twists clichés, happily diverts morality, and seduces with lyricism and prowess. Find out more.

Kick-off Sip & Savor Saranac Lake Week on Sunday.

Saranac Lake’s restaurants, bars and breweries are coming together to tempt you to get out and about and enjoy the best of local cuisine. Starting Sunday, April 30, until Sunday, May 7, many of Saranac Lake’s most beloved establishments will offer prix fixe menus and beverage specials geared to help patrons keep it local and enjoy the culinary delights of the region. All week long, participating establishments will be offering a 3-course, set menu at $20, $30 or $40 and/or drink specials. Get the skinny here.
