Greetings! Welcome to another issue of the In Good Taste newsletter. We’re sending this newsletter right after the first day of spring, and we’re feeling it. It’s been relatively warm in many parts of the Adirondacks. And, yet, we may get some snow before the weekend is through. I ❤️ ADK. Last year in mid-April, we received over a foot of snow that knocked out power for two days (and our WiFi — the HORROR!). So, as far as we’re concerned, all bets are off in terms of whether (or “weather”) winter 2024/2025 is behind us. Nevertheless, it’s always a great time to be in the Adirondacks. If you are in Lake George this weekend, you might want to stop by Fort William Henry. They will commemorate the hostile March 1757 attack on the Fort that FWH soldiers ultimately withstood. There’s something for everyone — an authentic colonial dinner, battle reenactments, and a craft beer fest. Visit another strategic location in Colonial and Revolutionary War times, the Crown Point Lighthouse on Lake Champlain. While it no longer functions as a working lighthouse, it became a memorial to Samuel de Champlain and features an original bronze bust created by Auguste Rodin, who some say is the godfather of modern sculpture. If you’re exploring the Lake Champlain and ADK Coast region, check into The Village Inn in Port Henry. It offers small-town charm and modern amenities in an under-the-radar (for now) area of the Adirondacks. Speaking of Adirondack history, we discuss ghostly activity with the Adirondack Park Paranormal Society on the ADK Talks Podcast. We explore the intersection of the region's rich history and the supernatural, from Saranac Lake to Lake George and many places in between. March is Women’s History Month, and we recognize the vital role of Adirondack experiences in shaping exceptional women. For example, did you know Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg attended summer camp in the Adirondacks from age four until 18? As in every issue, this week's In Good Taste newsletter features more terrific recommendations for weekend events and other news updates. So, let’s get to it and dive into this week’s In Good Taste!
