Get Ready to Shake a Tailfeather in an Adirondack Turkey Trot

Adirondack towns offer multiple opportunities to pre-game Thanksgiving Dinner with a fun run supporting good causes.

Runners on a fall road for a Thanksgiving turkey trot.

For over 30 years, we have spent Thanksgiving in the ADK, and it has always been a delightful time filled with scrumptious food, shopping from local vendors, and participating in various games and activities. We make it a point to stay active by doing some light exercise daily, such as taking a walk, refilling the firewood box or vigorously shaking a martini shaker.

If you're looking for something more structured or intense, several fun 5k runs/walks are organized in towns throughout the ADK on Thanksgiving Day. These events are family-friendly, so everyone, including furry four-legged friends, can participate. Moreover, these events support valuable causes, so not only will you release endorphins and feel good, but you'll also be contributing to the ADK communities. It's a win-win situation!

Without further ado, here are Turkey Trots for Thanksgiving 2023 in the Adirondacks.

Adirondack Health is hosting its 14th annual 5k Turkey Trot/Run on Thanksgiving morning at the Beach House in Lake Placid on the south end of Mirror Lake.

This fun family event covers a flat 5k course around Mirror Lake. Proceeds will benefit local school food pantries and Adirondack Health’s Fit for Life program.
