More Birding Fun at Paul Smith’s

Day Two of the GABC offers several field-trip options for birders.

The Great Adirondack Birding Celebration (GABC) is designed to introduce birders of all ages and skill levels to the unique boreal bird species and habitats in the Adirondack Park. This three-day-long celebration at Paul Smith’s Visitor Interpretive Center features birding field trips to local Important Bird Areas (IBAs) and presentations by accomplished ornithologists. Field trips have limited capacity, so be sure to register soon.

Day Two gives birders several options for half-day field trips and learning experiences. They include excursions to:

  • Whiteface Mountain

  • Bloomingdale Bog

  • Grassland Birds at Heaven Hill and Uihlein Farm

  • Loon Watching Paddle on Little Clear Pond

  • Madawaska Flow Search for Spruce Grouse

Visitors can also stay on Paul Smith’s VIC campus for a beginner birding presentation led by Jesse Rock. Other presentations include:

  • Adirondack raptors demonstration

  • Golden-winged Warbler Report

  • Keynote on the Science of Birds with Ivan Phillipsen

Enjoy a walk on the VIC trails, peruse vendors with bird-related goods, take in the art exhibit in Heron Marsh Gallery, or simply enjoy some of the best views in the Adirondacks and see what’s at their bird feeders.

The fun continues on Sunday with a repeat of the half-day field trips and other events at the Visitor’s Interpretive Center.

Visit Paul Smith’s website for more information and to register.

The GABC is sponsored by and in partnership with the Hotel Saranac, Explore Adirondack Frontier and Northern New York Audubon
